Contracts with area libraries for Quitman, Alba, Hawkins, and Winnsboro were approved at Friday's Wood County Commissioners meeting. The county will pay each city $8,000 for services for one year. Each city has and maintains an extensive free library which is capable of serving the city and county residents together. Each city will provide free library cards and other library services ton county residents to the same extent as city residents.

Wood County Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution supporting the Galveston County Commissioner's Court in their effort to defend the authority of county commissioners. The resolution states "be it resolved, that the Commissioners of Wood County, Texas, supports the efforts of the Galveston Commissioners Court to defend: (1) the well-defined authority of county commissioners courts in budget matters within each county; and (2) principles of due process applicable to district court review of county commissioners courts' decisions.

There were several personnel actions approved by the commissioners. They were: Sonya Pyron was raised from $15.44 to $15.98 per hour in the District Clerk's office; Abram Syphrett was raised from $17.06 to $18.33 per hour in the Information Technology department; new jailers for Wood County Sheriff's office hired were La'Dawn McGee, Lindsey Price, and Whitney Waller all at $17.06 per hour; Precinct #3 JP office hired Olga Nicholas as a part-time clerk at $9 per hour; and in the elections department temporary hires at $10 per hour were: Linda Renfro, Tamara Rhodes, Andrea Sudderth, Terrell Aronspeer, Billie Henderson, Liz Smith, Todd Pankey, Charles Denson,

Carol Denson, Sara Phillips, and Brenda Hunter.

In another matter, Mary Lookadoo, Mineola, was re-appointed to the Andrews Center Board of Trustees, position 4, through October 31, 2017.

Commissioners approved routine matters including: approval of the $318,652.28 payroll, claims, and the treasurer's report.
