Kratzmeyer repeat champion
Abby Kratzmeyer of Mineola flew to a state championship in the girls 3A pole vault at the UIL state track and field meet Friday in Austin.
After missing a couple early attempts, Kratzmeyer quickly eclipsed her competition.
She cleared 12’6” to capture her second state title after winning as a freshman last year.
She tried to beat the state record of 13 feet, attempting a 13’1” vault three times, but was unable to clear it.
“I was so excited to go for the record and I had some close attempts, but next year, I got it,” said the sophomore.
