Lady Bulldogs dominate Spring Hill in three
The Quitman Lady bulldogs got back on the winning track with a 3-0 victory over Class 4A Spring Hill last Tuesday at home. Quitman took the match by the scores of 25-18, 25-18, 25-23. The win raised the Lady ‘Dogs season record to 10-15. The Quitman squad continues to prepare for the District 12-3A opener set for Sept. 13 at home against Lone Oak.
“We play a tough pre-season schedule to get us ready for district. This is a tough district and you have to be ready every game if you want to compete,” Quitman Head Coach Ashlee Lingo said.
Sophomore middle blocker Ava Burroughs led the Lady Bulldog scoring surge with 10 kills and four blocks and she served three aces. Senior hitter Julia Simpkins came through with seven kills and added a dig.
Shelby Hays continued consistent back court play for a solid all around match with 22 assists, five digs, three kills and an impressive five aces. Jentri Jackson frustrated Spring Hill’s offensive efforts with 20 digs and coming off an injury, Maddy Whitehurst added three kills, four digs and an ace.
In sub-varsity action Quitman JV fell in a close and exciting match to Spring Hill 23-25, 25-22, 23-25. The freshman team was victorious taking their match over Spring Hill with dominate 25-13, 25-9 scores.
