Lady Bulldogs drop dual meet matches

A young Quitman Lady Bulldog volleyball team began the season with losses in a dual meet at Hawkins against the Lady Hawks and Tyler HEAT, a home school team. After a slow start, the Lady Bulldogs played better in their final matches against Hawkins.

“We are young and we are still working on several different rotations. We should be ready to go by the time district rolls around,” Coach Ashlee Lingo said. “I thought we did a good job in the final match against Hawkins. After leading most of the way, we finally lost 27-29. We just need to keep working hard and we will be fine.”

Both matches found the Lady Bulldogs on the losing end falling to Tyler HEAT 20-25, 17-25, 18-25 and to Hawkins 22-25, 14-25, 27-29.

Quitman was playing without the services of senior Lucy Brannon, a three-year letterman, who is out due to an undetermined illness. The only other seniors, Lindsey Hornaday and Halie Davis, were in action for both contests.

Against Hawkins, Ava Burroughs had eight kills, three digs, two aces and a block; Brooklyn Marcee five kills; Addison Marcee four digs and one kill; Hornaday four kills and six digs; Carley Spears 12 assists, two kills and two aces; Halie Davis four kills and two digs; Ashley Davis 10 assists; and Alexis three digs.

In the match against Tyler HEAT Maddy Pence had eight assists and one dig; Hornaday two aces, five kills; Spears four kills; Burroughs eight kills, seven assists, four aces; Ashley Davis four assists; Halie Davis six kills; and O’Neal two assists and two digs.

After playing at Spring Hill against the host and Class 4A Pleasant Grove, Quitman returns Friday and goes to Alba-Golden for a dual against the Lady Panthers and Lone Oak.
