Lady Bulldogs hold off Grand Saline in 5-setter
After taking the first two sets, the Quitman Lady Bulldogs had to hold off the Grand Saline Lady Indians to earn a hard fought three sets to two victory in district volleyball action Friday. The Lady Bulldogs put things together in the fifth set to escape with the win. The scores in the win were 25-20, 25-16, 23-25, 23-25, 15-13. Quitman is now 7-1 in district play and 21-11 for the year.
Against Grand Saline Madalyn Spears had 30 digs, 19 kills, one ace while Jentri Jackson added 16 digs, 13 kills, two aces. Julia Simpkins had three digs and nine kills while Shelby Hayes had seven digs and 48 assists. Abby Dobbs had 12 digs, one kill, one ace, Lindsey Hornaday 26 digs, two kills, Ava Burroughs seven kills and Maddy Whitehurst two digs, three kills, and four aces.
In their match against Lone Oak, Quitman dominated play with wins of 25-9, 25-15, 25-19. Jackson had 10 digs, five kills, one ace, one block; Spears five digs, eight kills, one ace, one assist; Simpkins three digs, four kills, one assist; Hayes three digs, four kills, 24 assists; Abby Dobbs 10 digs, two kills, one ace; Whitehurst four digs, six kills, one ace, two blocks; Ava Burroughs six kills and Lindsey Hornaday 17 digs and four aces.
The ninth grade team won 25-19 and 25-23 and the JV fell 21-25 and 18-25.
After a home game against Rains Tuesday, Quitman travels to Alba-Golden Friday.
