Lady Bulldogs open season with win
The Quitman Lady Bulldogs started basketball season with a 39-30 win over the West Rusk Lady Raiders at Ballard Memorial gym last Tuesday night.
The offense was led by sophomores Allie Berry and Sadie Vander Schaaf. Berry scored eight of the Lady ‘Dogs 12 fourth quarter points and totaled 12 for the game. Vander Schaaf hit for nine points.
The Quitman defense was the difference in the game. “I thought we came out a little rusty and nervous. But we flew around on defense and rebounded well,” Head Coach Blake Hamrick noted. “I’m proud of how they fought and their effort the whole game. Hopefully we can build off of it moving forward.”
Berry also added nine rebounds. Seniors Madyson Pence and Kaysie Parker each had seven rebounds. Pence added six points and Parker four. Pence also had four assists and three steals.
Junior Ashley Davis scored four points but her defense was solid with nine deflections and three steals. Fellow junior Addison Marcee was a constant defensive threat to West Rusk with her relentless hustle at both ends.
After playing Alba-Golden Tuesday, the Lady Bulldogs travel to Palmer Friday for a 2 p.m. contest.
