Lady Hawks can’t hold early lead, lose to Pittsburg, 58-43

The Hawkins Lady Hawks were desperate for a win coming in to last Tuesday’s game as the team had lost back-to-back games to Grand Saline and Gladewater. However even after a good start where Hawkins led 9-5 at the end of the first quarter, Hawkins fell to the Pittsburg Lady Pirates 58-43. 

The Hawks played a solid first half as they went in to intermission down 17-21, but the Lady Pirates scored 20 points in the third quarter and took their first double-digit lead at the end of the third when the score was 30-41.

The Lady Hawks would not regain the lead again as they eventually lost by 15 being out-scored 17 to 13 in the final quarter.

The Lady Hawks were led in scoring by Raeli Smith who had 12 points and eight rebounds.  Also helping the effort for Hawkins was Harlie Conover with seven points, four rebounds and two steals.

Alyssa Eddington added six points, six rebounds, Emily Hodges had five points and four rebounds, Jaycee Cheshire tied for the lead in rebounding with five points, eight rebounds, and a block. Emily Moore contributed four points and two rebounds, while Carolyn Searer had two points, two rebounds and three steals.
