Lady Jackets claim wins in Van tournament
The Lady Jackets earned their initial season victories at the Van volleyball tournament this past weekend. Wins over Marshall, T.K.Gorman, and Arp are signs of good things to come in the 2018 season. Coach VanCleave noted the tourney revealed many team strengths and weaknesses, stating “We are in a good place, we just have to keep working.”
Rebounding from an opening day loss to the Sabine Cardinals, the Lady Jackets demonstrated dogged commitment and tireless work ethic throughout the tourney. The victory over the Arp Tigers may be illustrative of the Lady Jackets´ composure. Falling behind early in each set, a scrambling defense and timely offense saw the Lady Jackets erase the deficit by mid-set and press ahead for the critical late points.
Teammates on the 2018 squad are: Josye Simms, Meghan Brewington, Emily Wiley, Tahjae Black, Kelsey Brewington, Alyssa Lankford, Valerie Garcia, Sabria Dean, Cyndi Butler, Tiara Stephens and Alyssa Cannon.
The Lady Jackets visited Gladewater for action against the Bears on August 14th. The next opportunity to watch the Lady Jackets will be at the Eustace volleyball tournament this weekend.
