The Lady Jackets track team combined talents to place second behind Atlanta at the Mineola Relays last week. The boys team finished in fourth behind historically solid track and field schools of Atlanta, Spring Hill and Henderson.

Pole vaulter Abeni (Abby) Kratzmeyer scored the sole gold ribbon for Mineola with a vault of 12 feet. She also finished third in the 100 meter dash. Kratzmeyer said she was excited about competing in the UIL district track and field competition Wednesday in Rains. Kratzmeyer, Mineola’s only girls varsity pole vaulter, set a personal record of 12-6 at the Texas Relays in Austin on March 30. She attempted but did not match that height on April 4. Asked if she has higher vaults in her future, she noted that she’d done so in practice.

The Lady Jackets leveraged a number of second and third place finishes to build their point total. They were Meghan Brewington second in the 800 meter run; Tahjae Black second in the long jump and third in the triple jump; Alia Freeman second in the high jump; Tiara Stephens and Jalia Freeman second and third in the shot put; Hannah Zoch second in the 3200 meter run and third in the 1600 meter run; and Kapri Riley third in the 3200 meter run. The 4x100 meter relay of Kratzmeyer, Kiara Williams, Alyssa Cannon and Jessiah Riley placed second. The 4x200 and 4x400 meter relay teams both placed third.

In the boys competition, Wylie Franks captured second in the high jump and the 110 meter hurdles. Shaw Franklin finished second in the 200 meter dash while Devin Cormier won second in the 300 meter hurdles. Devion Sneed captured third in the 110 meter hurdles.

The boys 4x400 meter relay team of Morgan Waggoner, Shaw Franklin, Kelby Bruner and Devin Cormier won a third place finish.
