The Mineola girls golf team earned a trip to the state tournament on Tuesday at regionals, hosted by Oakhurst Golf Course in Bullard.

The team's score in round one on Monday was 431 strokes. Over eighteen holes, the Lady Jackets found eighteen shots between them to improve and post a second-round score of 413 strokes. This secured third place in Region 2-3A, qualifying the Mineola girls to tee it up again May 10-11 at ShadowGlen Golf Club in Manor.

Just the Howe team, who won the regional tournament, bettered the Lady Jackets in the second round, and only by seven shots.

Ava Johnson shot a strong 88 in round one, the only Lady Jacket to break 100 on Monday, and sat in thrid place. She scored 102 Tuesday, just shy of the podium as a medalist, one stroke back of Mt. Vernon's Laney Wright and Keene's Lily Moore.

Sunni Ruffin shot 103 on day one. Her second-round 93 led Mineola's Tuesday push, helping the team's total drop by nearly twenty.

Savannah Lopez carded a 97 in round two, a marked improvement over her 112 from Monday. Hers was the best swing between rounds for Mineola, nearly one shot per hole.

Allie Hooton also improved upon her first round by seven shots to post 121 on Tuesday, while Valerie Moreland struggled to break 130.
