Lady Jackets trounce Harmony 92-21 in bi-district hoops play
The Mineola Lady Jackets dismantled the Harmony Nature and Athletics Tigers 92-21 in bi-district action Feb. 11 at North Forney. As third-place finishers in District 11-3A, the Tigers were outmatched in every facet of the game. The Lady Jackets demonstrated superior basketball acumen, physical skill and organization.

Lady Jackets trounce Harmony 92-21 in bi-district hoops play
The Mineola Lady Jackets dismantled the Harmony Nature and Athletics Tigers 92-21 in bi-district action Feb. 11 at North Forney. As third-place finishers in District 11-3A, the Tigers were outmatched in every facet of the game. The Lady Jackets demonstrated superior basketball acumen, physical skill and organization.
Indicators of the evening ahead were provided when Harmony was assessed a technical foul prior to the tip-off for not providing a finalized roster to the official scorer. Shortly after the initial whistle, time was stopped for one of the Harmony starting guards to remove her earrings. It did not portend well for Harmony.
The Lady Jackets forced 17 Tiger turnovers in the first quarter. With incredible hustle and pace on the break, Mineola built a 32-2 lead in the first. Most noteworthy were the number of Lady Jacket assists: Brewington from Riley, Brewington from Dean, Cormier from Brewington, Gardner from Dean. This trend continued all night and was illustrative of the unselfish Lady Jacket play.
Mineola freshman guard Kapri Riley suited up with the varsity for the first time this season and played significant minutes. She demonstrated keen court awareness, a soft touch on her jump shot and traditional Lady Jacket hustle.
Halfway through the second quarter with the score 42-3, Mineola called off the press. Tiara Stephens and Tahjae Black made nice contributions in the minutes before intermission. At the half the score stood 50-8.
Sabria Dean continued her phenomenal season with an excellent third-quarter performance. An assist to Stephens, a nice mid-range jumper and a three-pointer off a back-screen highlighted her efforts.
Mineola finished the game on a 19-0 run. Harmony was physically and emotionally spent. Alyssa Cannon and Cyndi Butler did most of the damage in the final minutes.
The Lady Jackets geared up for the playoffs all season in a tough District 12-3A. Their hard work and commitment were clearly evident to the approximately 200 Mineola fans who made the trip to North Forney.
The Lady Jackets advanced to area play with the victory.
