Lady Owls split games at N. Hopkins tourney

The Yantis Lady Owls won a pair of games at the North Hopkins Freeman Parrish Tournament last week. The Lady Owls took down Roxton 50-14 and the host school North Hopkins 37-22, but fell to Class 3A Prairieland 81-39 and Wolfe City 52-45 in the third place game.

Lady Owl Maggie Hooker was named to the All Tournament team. “Maggie just hustles all the time. She gets a lot of rebounds and on offense she turns them into points. She does a good job for us on defense,” Head Coach Mike McMinn said. “The girls did a good job and are getting better. We will be ready for district.”

In the third place game against Wolfe City, Montana Wetzel had 17 points, Ashton Burnett had 10 Maggie Hooker chipped in with six, Sidney Williams added five and Maddie Hooker had four points..

In defeating North Hopkins the Lady Owls jumped out to a 13-0 first quarter lead over the host team. It was 15-0 before the Lady Panthers got on the board. They led at the half 23-9 and coasted to the 37-22 final score. Scoring was evenly shared as Wetzel had 13, Maddie Hooker 12, Maggie Hooker eight and Burnett and Macie Starrett three each.

The Lady Owls played at home Tuesday after monitor press time against Fannindel followed by a Friday contest against state-ranked Campbell.
