Lady Owls take on Detroit Friday


The Yantis Lady Owls will continue their season with matches at home against Como-Pickton Tuesday and Detroit Friday with each contest beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The Lady Owls continued their preparations for district play at the North Hopkins tournament Aug. 17 and 19.

On Thursday, Aug. 17, they started the North Hopkins tourney in pool with Wolfe City, Pittsburg and Farmersville. They won their first game over Wolfe City 25-18 and 21-25. Ashton Burnett had seven aces, four kills, 11 digs and two tips, Sydney Williams had three aces, three kills, nine digs, one block and one tip, Maggie Hooker had four aces,one kill and two tips and Montana Wetzel five aces, two kills, 12 digs and two tips.

The second game was against Pittsburg. The Lady Owls lost in two sets 25-13 and 12-25. Jackie Lopez had nine digs, Burnett had two aces, two kills, one tip and 12 digs, Sarah Willkey added two good blocks with nine digs, Williams had two aces, two kills and 12 digs, Maddie Hooker had one ace, eight digs and one block and Wetzel had three kills, 11 digs, one block and one tip.

The third game of the day was against Farmersville. Farmersville won in two sets 25-14 and 5-25. “We stayed up the first set and I have no clue what happened in the second set other than we just could not stay up and play as a team,” Coach Jamie Garcia said. “As a team we had a total of seven aces, six kills, one block and two tips.

On Saturday, the Lady Owls started with a win over Roxton in two sets 15-25 and 25-20. Burnett had five aces, one kill and two tips, Sydne Romine two aces and one kill, Wilkey one ace and four kills, Williams three aces, one block and one tip, Maggie Hooker, one ace one kill and one block, Maddie Hooker had four aces, Wetzel eight aces, two kills, one block and three tips.

The Lady Owls then fell to Rivercrest in two sets 25-11 and 12-25. Losing this game sent us to play for third place in the Silver Bracket. They played against Chisum for the 3rd place and lost Chisum in two sets 17-25 and 25-6. 

On Friday, Aug 18, the Lady Owls traveled to Union Hill and lost in five sets by 125-12, 22-25, 23-25, 25-12 and 6-15.

Lopez had 20 digs and one kill, Burnett nine aces, 18 digs, three kills, and two tips, Hope Dixon 12 digs and one kill, Romine four aces, 13 digs and one tip, Wilkey three aces, 10 digs, five kills and one block, Williams nine aces, four kills, 12 digs, one block and one tip, Maggie Hooker had two aces, four kills and nine digs, Maddie Hooker had five aces, five kills, 10 digs, one block and one tip, Macie Rodriguez had four aces and three digs, Wetzel had five aces, seven kills, one block and two tips.
