An offensive display of power and a pitcher with a devastating off speed pitch spelled an 11-4 defeat for Alba-Golden in the area championship game at Rockwall Saturday against Howe. The Lady Panthers never quit, but could not come back this time against a solid Howe Lady Bulldog team.
Alba-Golden managed three hits in the game, two by Ashlyn Rogers and a double by Laynie Culp. Howe was led by pitcher Torrey Stubblefield who struck out eight, six of those on an effective change-up. Howe was powered by 13 hits including four home runs with back to back bombs by Cassidy Anderson and Stubblefield in the bottom of the fourth inning which gave the Lady Bulldogs a 9-2 lead the Lady Panthers could not overcome.
Howe set down the top of the Alba-Golden order in the top of the first inning. The Lady Bulldogs took an early lead with two runs in their half the first inning. The Lady Panthers got their first hit on a single by Rogers in the top of the third. Rogers then stole a pair of bases, but was stranded there as the inning ended. The Lady-Panthers got into the scoring column in the top of the fourth inning. Bralee Littlejohn and Macie Pendergrass each drew a walk. The next two batters flew out, but Grace Bizzell came through with a hard shot misplayed at third scoring both runners.
The Lady Panthers scored another run in the top of the fifth with Rogers scoring after she had singled and scored when Lindsey Roberts got on base via an error. Laynie Culp doubled in the top of the sixth and came home to score when Kalli Wright knocked her in when the third baseman mishandled the ball.
