Mineola holds Veterans Day program
Heroes come from many walks of life and students of Mineola High School gave their respects to the veterans of the armed services at the annual Veterans Day program held at the Mineola High School gymnasium on Friday.
Several students including the high school band, first grade and high school choir and others took part in Mineola’s Veterans Day program. Frankie Meason introduced the Color Guard from American Legion Post 296 while High School Principal David Sauer gave the introduction.
Devante Wright followed with the invocation before Caitlyn Hudson and Leslie Gonzalez defined the meaning of the pledge. Lauren Almuete introduced the Nation Anthem sung by the middle school choir with Noah Sneed and Austen Walls providing the meaning of Armistice/Veterans Day.
Winners of the Pilot Club and American Legion essay contests, Kennedi Elmore and Gustavo Arango, read their respective essays, the high school choir treated everyone to a beautiful rendition of “God Bless America” and the Junior Historians made a special presentation thanking local veterans.
The program ended with the recognition of veterans present, the playing of “Taps” and the MHS band leading the congregation in “America the Beautiful.”
