Lady Panthers first, Panthers second at district relays

The Alba-Golden girls track team wasted no time in establishing dominance in their first year in the newly-revamped District 19-2A. The Lady Panthers took the district crown with a 40-point win over the second-place Cayuga squad last Wednesday.

The Lady Panthers leveraged a clean sweep of the relays and a total of seven blue-ribbon finishes to top the field. 

The 4-100-meter relay team of Landrie Boyd, Braelyn Massie, Sadie Wright and Averi Stevenson notched a 48.36 winning time. Lainey Teel, Jayla Sitar, Peyton Clark and Stevenson won the 2x200-meter relay in 1:52.80. Sitar, Teel and Stevenson teamed with Campbell Shrum to take the blue-ribbon in the 4x400-meter in 4:22.18. 

Additional first-place performances were given by Massie in the 200-meter dash (27.89), Stevenson in the triple jump (31’10.75”), Olivia Morrison in the pole vault (9’) and Alexis Wilmut in the shot put (31’6”).

In district track meets, the top four finishers advance to area competition. The athletes who additionally earned a trip to the area meet were Sadie Wright (200-meter dash), Massie (400-meter dash), Clark (3200-meter run), Joecey Lewers and Teel (high jump), Massie and Stevenson (long jump) and Sitar (pole vault).

The Alba-Golden boys likewise had an impactful district performance. They finished second to the Frankston squad, amassing 169 points.

The Panthers were led by Wyatt Sutton who won the 200-meter dash in 22.36 and the 400-meter dash in 52.50. He also ran the second leg of the blue ribbon 4x100-meter relay with teammates Garrett Wright, Cooper Christian and Kayden Massie. Sutton also managed second-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump.  

Senior Cameron Lennon ran a 15.96 time to claim the 110-meter hurdles. 

A host of other qualifying performances rounded out Alba-Golden’s day. They were Massie (100-meter dash), Sam Leddy (400-meter dash), Memphis Martinez (800-meter run), Lennon and Alex Pfingston (300-meter hurdles), Lennon (high jump), Pfingsten (pole vault), Mason Smith (discus) and Layton Williams (shot put). 

The Panthers 4x200-meter relay team of Brett Sutton, Christian, Cason Boyd and Brandt Peterson and the 4x400-meter relay of Sutton, Pfingsten, Massie and Lennon also qualified to run at the area meet April 9 in Madisonville.
