Lady Panthers split district games

After a sluggish 40-24 district opening loss to Edgewood, the Alba-Golden Lady Panthers got back on track Friday with a 58-50 win over Rains.

Against Rains, the Lady Panthers fell behind 16-14 in the first quarter, but came back with an 18-12 second quarter to take a 32-28 lead at intermission. Alba-Golden’s relentless defense kept the Lady Cats just out of reach as the Lady Panthers took a 47-42 lead into the final eight minutes. The Lady Panthers subdued Rains in the final quarter and took the 58-50 win.

Lady Panthers split district games

After a sluggish 40-24 district opening loss to Edgewood, the Alba-Golden Lady Panthers got back on track Friday with a 58-50 win over Rains.

Against Rains, the Lady Panthers fell behind 16-14 in the first quarter, but came back with an 18-12 second quarter to take a 32-28 lead at intermission. Alba-Golden’s relentless defense kept the Lady Cats just out of reach as the Lady Panthers took a 47-42 lead into the final eight minutes. The Lady Panthers subdued Rains in the final quarter and took the 58-50 win.

Alba-Golden hit on 20-32 free throws during the game. Macie Pendergrass hit on 7–10 free throws and led the Lady Panthers with 15 points. Ashlyn Rogers and Grace Bizzell each had 12 points and Ginny Carson added 11. Carson led the team in rebounding with 12 and Pendergrass added eight. Sammi Rambsel added eight points for Alba-Golden.

Against Edgewood, the Lady Panthers simply had a bad night on offense. Alba-Golden was down 11-3 after one quarter and 20-11 at the half. Things did not get much better on offense as the Lady Panthers scored 13 second half points while Edgewood tallied 20 for the 40-24 final.

Bizzell led Alba-Golden with 10 points and Rambsel added seven. Alba-Golden was 8-51 from the floor making only 15.7 percent of their shots for the game.

The Lady Panthers get back into district action with a Dec. 21 game at home against a Mineola team which is 2-0 in district after knocking off Edgewood.
