Ladyjackets claim Bullard Relays; MHS boys make strong showing

The Mineola Yellowjackets girls track team achieved six first-place finishes to claim the Bullard Relays championship on March 7. The meet featured athletes from Mineola, Bullard, Cumberland Academy, Jacksonville, Rusk and West Rusk.

Alyssa Cannon, Abby Kratzmeyer, Jessiah Riley and Kiara Williams brought home the 4 x 100 meter relay with a time of 50.5 seconds. The 4 x 200 meter relay team of Cannon, Kratzmeyer, Teaundra Stewart and Williams also took first place with a winning time of 1:49.41.

Meghan Brewington won the 800 meter run in a time of 2:30.3. She was joined by third-place finisher Yellowjacket Juliana Stanley. Brewington also placed third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04.37.

Sophomore standout Tahjae Black soared 16 feet to take the blue ribbon in the long jump competition. Kiara Williams joined Black by finishing third in the long jump. Black also won the triple jump competition with a combined leap of 32-7.

Kratzmeyer, defending state champion in the pole vault, recorded a pole vault first place finish with a vault of 10’ – 6”.

Second place finishers in Bullard included Chloe Cormier in both the 100 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles, Kratzmeyer in the 100 meter dash, and Hannah Zoch who recorded a 6:04.61 in the 1600 meter run.

Jessiah Riley picked up a third place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.96 seconds. The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Brewington, Riley, Stanley and Williams posted a time of 4:22.81 to finish third.

The Mineola boys track and field team also competed strongly in Bullard. Wylie Franks won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.86 seconds. Devion Sneed took third in the same event.

Carlos Galaz churned out a first place finish in the 1600 meter race with a time of 4:38, and the 4 x 400 relay team of Devin Cormier, Shaw Franklin, Jaxon Holland and Morgan Waggoner won the blue ribbon with a time of 3:32.

Aiden Stewart and Wylie Franks placed second and third respectively in the high jump event.

Of note, the Mineola track team fielded four mile relay teams, quite an accomplishment at the high school level.

The fielding of four relay teams indicates a solid track program and willing athletes.
