Lake Fork Weekly Fishing Report

(May 27 - June 2)

Posted

The summer heat is here to stay now. The water temperatures are in the mid-80s and the water clarity is getting better every day all over the lake.

The bass fishing was very good this week with numerous good bass being caught by everybody. We caught good numbers of Bass on the Strike King KVD Gizzard Shad 1.5 crankbait. The better fish this week came on the ¾-ounce brown/black/orange jig in 12 to 22 foot of water on main lake humps. We used Buddy’s Custom Baits watermelon red Boss Hog as trailers on our jigs. When the bass got contrary, we went to the Carolina rig, still on main lake humps. We continued to use Buddy’s Custom Baits watermelon red Boss Hog as our primary bait on our Carolina rigs.

One rig that I have not talked about for the last few weeks is the split shot rig. I pulled it out this week and put a watermelon red Lake Fork Trophy Lures 5 inch Hyper Stick on it and fished it along the side of the duck weed in the creeks. It works!

The crappie fishing was good this week. We continued to use a white with orange tail crappie jigs in 22 to 24 foot of water. The crappie are stacked over tops of brush piles.

The white bass continue to put on a show in 22 to 24 foot of water. Joe Spaits chrome with silver fish scales and chrome with chartreuse flutter spoons are the best baits to catch them with. The best technique to use the Joe Spaits spoon is to swim the spoon close to the bottom.

The catfish fishing was also good this week. The catfish are being caught in 24 to 28 foot around isolated trees. Punch bait is the bait of choice this week.

We will be at the Longview Boat Show, the 8,9,10 June, for the Summer Boat Show in Longview. I will be available to answer any questions on Lake Fork and will be in the Nichols Marine booth. Stay hydrated and have a safe fishing week.
