Lake Fork Weekly Fishing Report
It was a great week on beautiful Lake Fork. The water is stained over most of the lake and water temperatures are in the upper 70s.
The bass fishing was very good this week. Several techniques are working, such as medium running crankbaits, Carolina rigs, wacky rigs, and even the good ole Texas rigged worm. This week we used a sexy shad Strike King XD 8 on main lake points early in the mornings while the bass are active and putting on the feedbag. As the day went on, we relied on the Carolina rigged Zoom California 420 Baby Brush Hog.
I found that the best water depth to fish the Carolina rig was 18 to 22 feet of water on main lake points that have old timber on the side of the points. As the day went on and we ventured back into the creeks, we went to a Texas rigged Zoom California 420 Mag II worm with the tail dyed chartreuse. We found that creek sub points were the best place to pick up good quality fish. One thing you have to do is work the Texas Rig really slow. You cannot work the worm slow enough!
The crappie anglers were having good success with Bubba’s baits crappie jigs. The crappie have moved out into the deeper water. The crappie are being caught in 22 to 24 feet of water over isolated brush piles and around the main lake bridges. I found that the straight chartreuse crappie jig worked the best. When the crappie get stubborn, tip the jig with a minnow!
The white bass have gone crazy this week. They are stacked up on main lake humps and sharp creek bends. I found the best way to catch the white bass this week was to use Joe Spaits chrome and chartreuse Flashtail ½ ounce jigging spoon. Have fun!
The catfish anglers struggled this week. What few catfish that were caught were caught on punch bait in 18 to 22 feet of water. There are still a few in the shallow water spawning.
