Lake Fork Weekly Fishing Report Feb. 10-16
Happy 2019 to everybody. It was great to be back to work this week on beautiful Lake Fork. I was greeted by water temperatures in to the lower 50s and stained to muddy water. However, I was surprised to find that the bass have already started to move up from their 24-foot winter home into 4 to 8 feet of water.
We found several small bass in 2 to 4 feet of water. We used three baits this week to catch the cold water bass. The first was the ½-ounce Rayburn red Rattle Trap, next was the orange Joe Spaits chatter bait and finally the split shot rigged Lake Fork Trophy Lures chartreuse pepper Hyper Stick. The slower you moved the bait the better the bass could find the bait and react to it.
The crappie fishing was really slow this week. The crappie that were caught were on minnows over brush piles in 12 to 14 feet of water and around docks that had brush piles around them.
The catfish anglers struggled this week to find them. Cut bait worked the best in 20 feet of water around old trees.
On our equipment list this week is our Ranger Z520c powered by a Mercury 250 Pro XS, Duckett rods, ABU Garcia reels, Stren line and Joe Spaits Chatter Baits.
Here at J & M Guide Service we are taking bookings for March, April and May bass trips. Give us a call at (903) 413-6919. Have a safe fishing week.
