Mineola’s Lake Country Playhouse has set audition dates for the opening play of the 2018 season, “Doublewide, Texas,” a comedy by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten.

Mary Barlow Miller will be directing the play. The auditions will be Monday and Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Select Theater at, 114 N. Johnson Street in Mineola.

The cast calls for three men age 40 to 70, and six women age 40 to 70. Casting is open to everyone and newcomers are especially welcomed and encouraged. Crew volunteers are also needed.

Auditions will consist of cold reading from the script. Please come prepared to tell of any conflict dates you have from auditions to final show date. Ages are relative, and should not discourage anyone from auditioning.

Performance dates are Feb. 16, 17, 18, 23, 24 and 25.

For more information, you may contact the director at mwillingham2004@yahoo.com or the Lake Country Playhouse at 903- 569-2300.

Play synopsis: The inhabitants of one of the smallest trailer parks in Texas are thrown for a loop when the nearby town is determined to annex them.

It’s not like they don’t have enough to deal with: Joveeta has been passed over for a promotion, is in an ongoing battle to keep her feisty mother out of the local bar, and worries her good-oel’-boy brother is taking his participation in a womanless beauty pageant way too seriously.

Georgia is struggling to keep her diner and finances afloat, but can’t curb her impulse to take in every stray cat, possum, and armadillo that wanders by. Ethel, who’s nobody’s fool, is continually frustrated by her clients at Stairway To Heaven Retirement Village and her mule-headed husband who shows far more affection for his Barca Lounger than for her. The residents are plagued by the curmudgeon across the road, who loathes their “trailer-trash” ways. They’ll all have to work together to survive being swallowed up by “the big guys.”
