To the editor,
Recognition is due to the Mineola High School Junior Historians and their sponsors for the well-researched and presented Memorial Day program on May 29 at St Dunstan’s Episcopal Church. In “Remembering the Great War,” the students used song, narrative and poetry and prayer to give a solemn and moving tribute to the 100th anniversary of America’s entrance into WWI. They also recognized Wood County men who served during that war and their family members. The program concluded with a bugle playing “Taps.”
The Wood County Junior Historians are young men and women who excel academically and are involved in community and school activities, as evidenced by their many appearances in the Wood County Monitor. About 35 persons attended the patriotic program. Please consider making this event a part of your Memorial Day activities in the future. Remembering our great nation’s past gives perspective for America’s future.
