Healthy Bulldogs regroup for big win
The Quitman Bulldogs put a resounding end to a four-game losing streak with a dominating 61-36 victory over Eustace Friday night at Delbert Ballard Memorial Gym. Garrett Taylor successfully returned from a hand injury to hit on six three-point shots, five of them in the second quarter, on his way to a 30-point performance. Josh Medlin and Jake Farmer were both back in the line-up at full strength in the route over Eustace.
Quitman started fast taking a 15-0 lead into the final minute of the quarter before Eustace would score a pair of fast break buckets to make it 15-4. Taylor hit for six points in the quarter and with Quitman up 10-0 at the 3:19 mark, Wacey Warren came into the contest and promptly nailed a long trey to make it 13-0.
It was the second quarter when Eustace could not stop Taylor as he hit on five three-point shots and a lay-up to lead Quitman to a 32-11 advantage. Taylor netted all 17 Quitman points in the quarter with the Bulldog defense holding Eustace to seven points making the score 32-11 at intermission.
In the second half, Quitman freshman Jace Reid came off the bench to score six of the 10 Bulldog points as Eustace fought back with 16 points to close the gap to 42-27 going into the final frame.
The final quarter was all Quitman with the home team scoring 19 points to just nine for Eustace. Freshman post Luke Pruden had six points in the final quarter including 4-4 from the free throw line.
For the game Quitman hit 10 three-point shots with Taylor’s six, Reid’s two, and Warren and Jose Delgadillo one each. Quitman was 9-14 from the free throw line. Taylor’s 30 led all scorers while Reid had nine, Pruden six, Warren five, Farmer five, Jacob Rowland four and Delgadillo three.
The Bulldogs fell to Edgewood 63-27 Tuesday night on the road. The depleted Bulldogs, still missing three starters, could not solve the Edgewood press.
Quitman (13-13, 4-5) has another tough week ahead with a road game at Alba-Golden (16-10, 5-4) Tuesday, after Monitor press time, and Grand Saline Friday.
