Dear editor:

The citizens of Wood County should be outraged that the charges against former sheriff, Jim Brown, and his chief deputy, Miles Tucker, were dropped because of the statute of limitations.

Whether the fix was in, or it was sheer incompetence, this is a shameful fiasco.

The grand jury indicted both men after carefully weighing the evidence and facts in October 2017. There is no legal way Brown could know and assert information was withheld from the grand jury because its proceedings, by law, are secret. His claims of a personal vendetta against him are absurd.

The system that is supposed to protect us from the malfeasance of public officials has failed. We deserve better. Justice delayed is justice denied.
