Three new Dogwood Queens were crowned during the 49th annual Dogwood Pageant in Quitman on April 5.

Bethany Webber became the 49th Miss Dogwood, while Maria Ramirez was named first runner-up, and Shayna Cleveland was named second runnerup. Webber also took home the award for best casual wear and best evening gown. Ramirez was presented with the Pageant Director’s award and Miss Congeniality. Ramirez was also the only competitor in the talent portion of the pageant, and took home first prize for her performance of Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” on saxophone.

Haven Hardy became the 5th Junior Miss Dogwood, while Emma Van Becelaere was named first runner-up, and Halee Hightower was named second runner-up. Hardy also received the Pageant Director’s award. VanBecelaere won the award for best casual wear, and Hightower was named Miss Congeni- ality. Aleigh Farnham took home the award for best evening gown and most ticket sales. Maddy Whitehurst also competed in the Junior Miss category.

Gabby Chaney became the 24th Little Miss Dogwood, while Hannah Whittiker was named first runner-up, and Annabelle Popek was named second runnerup. Chaney also took home awards for most ticket sales, most photogenic and best casual wear. Whittiker took home the Ally Baker award and the Pageant Director’s award. Popek also received the award for best party dress. Breanna Bell and Baileigh Long also competed in the Little Miss category.

The evening was Hollywood-themed, and posters of movies such as “Casablanca” and “Gone With the Wind” adorned the stage of Quitman High School’s auditorium, which was set up to look like a red carpet. Keith Hastens was once again the emcee of the night’s activities, and serenaded the young ladies with songs such as “Wonderful Tonight.” Riley Cameron also entertained the audience with a song as votes were tallied.

Hayle Hardy (48th Miss Dogwood), Baylee Eberhart (4th Junior Miss Dogwood) and Kelaiah Lee (23rd Little Miss Dogwood) said their goodbyes to the crowd before crowning the new queens. A recording of their thoughts and feelings about their year as Dogwood Queens played in the background as they walked the stage one last time.
