Local middle school teams perform well in district track

The District 12-3A middle school track meet was held in early April with Eustace taking first place in eighth grade boys and girls while Quitman took second in boys and girls as Mineola came in third. In seventh grade competition the Mineola boys and Alba-Golden girls took first place.

For Quitman in the eighth grade girls competition, the 4X100 meter relay team of Brooklyn Marcee, Lizzy Herring, Tyann Harris and Tia Cobb took first place with a time of 55.97. The 4X200 meter relay team of Meadow King, Rhiana Bradshaw, Herring and Harris won first place and the 4X400 meter relay team of Jazmin Rojas, Marcee, Cobb and Bradshaw took second.

Marcee took first place in the pole vault with a vault of 10’ and Alexis O’Neal came in second. Herring was first in the triple jump with a distance of 29’6”. Marcee was first in the long jump with a jump of 14’4” with Herring a close second at 13’9”.

In boys eighth grade action Quitman swept the 100 meter dash with Isiah Aymond first with a time of 11.94 followed by Jaxon Holland with 12.20 and Wyatt Hightower third at 12.74. Quitman’s Brandon Jiminez dominated long distance running winning first place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:22.20, first place the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:29.19 and first place in the 2400 meter run with a time of 8:34.

The 4X200 meter relay team of Ethan Reynolds, Hightower, Holland and Aymond won first place with a time of 1:42 with the same group taking second in the 4X400 relay. Holland placed first in the high jump leaping 5’6” and Hightower was second in the shot-put with a toss of 35’8 ½”.

Making a good showing for Quitman in the seventh grade girls competition were Chloe Knutson who won first place in the 400 meter dash. Bonnie Vanderscaaf won first place in the triple jump with a leap of 28’ 5 1/2“ while Madyson Pence took first place in the long jump at 13’10”.
