The Lone Oak Lady Buffaloes exploded for 12 runs in the top of the second and went on to shut out the Alba-Golden Lady Panthers, 15-0, April 19. Lone Oak’s racked up 11 hits in a relentless display of efficient hitting in the breakout inning.
The visiting Lady Buffaloes put up one run in the first. A line drive deflected off of a leaping Lauren Crump for the initial hit of the game. The Buffaloes drove that run in with a long drive into the left field corner.
Lone Oak’s big second inning featured just about every type of base hit imaginable: a drive to center, a ground ball through the right side, a line drive to right center, a triple to the right field corner, a Texas leaguer to left, line drives to left and center, a ground ball up the middle. Disappointment enveloped the Lady Panthers. A dropped fly ball and a throwing error added more fuel to the Lone Oak fire. Finally, after 17 batters came to the plate, the torrent stopped.
There would be no comeback. The inning seemed to suck the life out of Alba-Golden. The team managed only two base hits on the day. In the first, Macie Pendergrass slapped a ball through the left side of the Lone Oak infield, and in the fourth Crump looped a single into left field.
