Lou Mallory, 85, passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019 at her home in Mineola. Survivors include her sister, Jane LeBaron; her daughter, Mary; and various nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born May 10, 1934 to Chesley and Willie Blalock in Tyler, she graduated from Tyler Junior College before working as a legal secretary.

She married Eugene Mallory Sept. 17, 1960 before moving to Mineola and later giving birth to her children Mary and Bill. After they entered school, she worked variously as a legal secretary and as a bookkeeper and secretary in the Mineola Independent School District superintendent’s office.

Upon retirement, she and her husband Gene became active in Master Gardeners before she turned her attention to Mineola history, helping establish the Mineola Historical Museum and the Junior Historians while also establishing the Mineola Landmark Commission in the mid-1990s. She also later served as chairman of the Wood County Historical Commission for almost 19 years. Researching and documenting history along with recognizing historically and culturally significant buildings and individuals were her passions, keeping her active and vital until the end.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the Mineola First United Methodist Church Ministries Center at 612 N. Newsom.

Memorials may be made to Mineola Historical Museum, Wood County Historical Commission or Landmark Commission.
