Funeral service for Mack Johnson, 87, of Quitman, was scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 23 at Hubbard Chapel Baptist Church with Brother Rick Ellington and Thomas Atchley officiating. Interment was held at Concord Cemetery

Jack McDonal “Mack” Johnson was born in Gladewater on June 21, 1932 to Rollie E. and Mary Rotille (Robinson) Johnson. He lived in Quitman since he was 12. He served two years in the U.S. Army. On July 17, 1954 he married Julia Faye Kirbo at First Baptist Church of Quitman, where the two were members for 50+ years before joining Hubbard Chapel Baptist Church. Mack was a cattleman and a member of the Registered Red Angus Association for more than 50 years. His professional life was spent in the oil field, holding positions for Amerada and Robbins Petroleum Corp. He retired in 1994 and spent the rest of his healthy life enjoying his farm and cattle.

Mack passed away Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Heritage Healthcare Residence in Quitman under Reflections Hospice Care.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lora Schulze and Marie Poster; an infant daughter, Debra Kay Johnson; and one son, Marty Johnson.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 65 years, Julia Faye Johnson of Quitman; two sons, Donal Johnson and wife Pam of Tyler, and David Johnson and wife Anita of Quitman; one sister, Mildred Stubbs; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Flowers are welcome, or donations in Mack’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association or the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America.
