A suspect who fired at a Mineola police officer following a traffic stop Monday night was still at large Tuesday afternoon.

Tony Saucedo Ybarra, 27, was stopped in the 1200 block of N. Johnson St. about 9:30 p.m. after Mineola police received a call that two subjects in a Lincoln Town Car had left an apartment complex in the 1800 block of N. Pacific St. who appeared to be intoxicated.

The driver left the vehicle and ran across US Hwy. 69, south on Johnson St.

The officers advised dispatch they would be in foot pursuit. The suspect fired a weapon while on foot. No one was injured.

A perimeter was set up to search for the suspect, with assistance from the Dept. of Public Safety helicopter, Wood County Sheriff’s Office, Hawkins Police Dept. and Constable Kelly Smith.

Smith deployed his dog, Juma, to aid in the search.

A warrant has been issued for Ybarra for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a public servant. He is also wanted for violation of parole of an aggravated robbery conviction and for a Wood County warrant for resisting arrest.

Ybarra was convicted for the 2010 robbery of the Sonic in Mineola and received 10 years in prison.

He has ties to the Quitman, Lake Fork and Mineola areas.

He is considered armed and dangerous.

Contact the Mineola police at 903-569-6294 or Crime Stoppers at 903-569-2118 with any information of Ybarra’s whereabouts.

He is described as 5’11”, 200 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Ybarra was previously sentenced to deferred adjudication for engaging in organized criminal activity in a February 2009 case.

He was charged with resisting arrest in January, as well as accident involving damage to vehicle more than $200.
