While many students enjoyed a week-long spring break, the Quitman Lady Bulldog powerlifters were busy at the state meet in Corpus Christi. As a team they claimed ninth place.

Quitman Athletic Director Shane Webber said, “I can’t tell you how proud I am of the girls. To take that many girls to the meet and come in ninth in the entire state is pretty dang good. Just watching the girls’ efforts and their tenacity in reaching their goals was great. This group has been very coachable and that is what it takes to be successful.”

Senior Brooklyn Marcee finished second in her division and received a scholarship from the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association. She recently committed to NCAA Division I University of Arkansas-Little Rock on a track scholarship.

In the 123-pound class, Marcee had lifts totaling 780 pounds, including 300 in the squat, 170 bench and 310 dead lift. Winning total was 950.
