Mary Frances Hicks, 1930-2019

Mary Frances Hicks of Quitman passed away Sept. 19, 2019. Services were held Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019 at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. The family received friends at 1 p.m. until service time. Burial followed at Roselawn Memorial Garden in Mineola.

Frances was born in Rice April 8, 1930 to Aubrey Lloyd Patterson and Jimmie Patterson during the Great Depression, the third of eight children. She married Wayne Hicks on March 10, 1951. Wayne entered the US Army in 1952. After being married for three years, she accompanied him to Germany with two children in tow. The family returned to Fort Hood in 1957. A year later, their third child was born. Frances found herself in Germany a second time in 1965, where Frances and Wayne welcomed child number four. A couple years later, the family was back in Belton, where she and Wayne resided until 1978, when they moved to Quitman. She and Wayne went from military life to the life of ranchers. Frances enjoyed working in her garden, playing games and spending time with her family and friends.

Frances is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Hicks; son, Benny Hicks; brothers, Gerald Patterson and Jack Paterson; and sister Betty Holloway. She is survived by daughters, Dianne Williams of Quitman and Brenda Hight and son-in-law Larry Hight of Belton; son, James Hicks and daughter-in-law Missy Hicks of Quitman; three sisters, Joyce Taylor, Ona Mae Horton and Joanne Kerns; brother, Lloyd “Junior” Patterson; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews and nieces.
