Mary Margaret Williford, 1942-2020

Mary Margaret Williford, 77, a resident of Quitman, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2020 at her home. Margaret was born in Columbia, Miss. on Sept. 9, 1942, to the late Clyde Summer and Louise Newsom Summer.

Margaret lived a full and adventurous life. From her childhood in rural Mississippi, she traveled the world, living in Africa, Europe, North and South America and Asia. She shared those travels with her children whom she dearly loved. As her children began their own young lives, Margaret settled back in the U.S. to be close to them and the rest of her family.

Margaret was blessed with a large and loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Williford; two brothers, Louis Summer and Harold “Buddy” Summer; and a sister, Josie Summer Walker. Margaret is survived by a brother, John Summer. Margaret raised three children, Mrs. Cory Irwin (Stuart) of Quitman, Mrs. Melissa Bagley (Chris) of Tupelo and Dr. Billy Powell, Jr. (Kelly) of New Waverly. Margaret was the proud grandmother of Bobby Irwin, Wesley Irwin, Hannah Irwin and Jayna Green (Jacob) from Cory; Ryan and Rebecca Bagley from Melissa and Trace, Blake and Taylor Powell from Billy. Margaret is also survived by a great-granddaughter, Jolee Rae from Jayna.

A memorial service for Mary was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2020 at Quitman Cemetery.
