Across the country, gardeners will celebrate April as National Gardening Month! On display this month is a collection of books - ranging from novice to expert - to help you grow your best garden ever. Many of the books were selected by the Quitman Garden Club and purchased with funds donated by club members. Stop in and check the display.

The second Friday Acoustical Music Jam at the library is Friday, April 14. Acoustical musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited to join in from 6 - 9 p.m. in the library’s community room. There will be an open mic set-up for those who wish to perform. Listeners are always welcome.

What you may not know about the Quitman Public Library: You can visit the library’s online catalog at http://quitman.biblionix.com/catalog and select “What’s Hot” to see all the latest books, audiobooks, and DVDs ready to be checked out. You can even select “Most Popular” to see what items are checked out the most. While you’re there, sign up for email or text notifications to remind you when your books are due.

Adult Services

GED preparatory classes meet each Thursday from 4- 6 p.m. to help you prepare for the test.

The class is taught by certified instructor Susan Resnik.

Instructors Rebekah Yeager and Virginia Hoffpauir invite students of all ages and skill levels to bring their own supplies and join the group for free knitting and crochet instruction each Thursday 2-4 p.m. in the library’s main gallery. If you have a pattern to share, please bring it.

Children’s Services

Tomorrow (Thursday) at 2 p.m., Story Time is “All About Service Dogs” - from service dogs to K-9 comforters. Upcoming Story Time calendar: April 6 – meet at Gov. Jim Hogg City Park because it’s “All About Playing!” We will play Red Rover, Red Light - Green Light and Freeze Tag. Also we will make bird feeders with bird seed and peanut butter. If you have a peanut allergy, soy nut butter will be available. April 13 - “All About Loving Your Library” to celebrate National Library Week.

Story Time is designed for young readers and home-schooled students, but anyone who wants to hear a great story is welcome. Special thanks to Peoples Telephone for sponsoring this year’s crafts and activities.

Friends of the Library

Friends of the Quitman Public Library meet Tuesday, April 11, at noon in the Shamburger Community Room. The Friends invite everyone for an hour of friendship. The short meeting will include a “5-Minute No Spoiler Book Review” and a short presentation of “What You May Not Know about Me” from one of the members. Special guest will be card mechanic Earl O’Neal who will April Fool us with slight-of-hand card tricks.

Also, it’s Pot Luck in May! Spend your lunch hour among Friends on Tuesday, May 9, at noon in the Shamburger Community Room.

Friends is an active group of men and women dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library.

Genealogy

The Wood County TX Genealogical Society will meet at the library on Monday, April 17 at 7 p.m. An early workshop begins at 6. Visit facebook.com/groups/woocotx.
