McKinney named teacher of year
The Mineola Kiwanis Club normally presents the teacher of the year award at the annual chamber of commerce banquet.
But that event in late March had to be canceled, so the club made a private presentation last week.
Club President Kevin White presented middle school special education teacher Lori McKinney a plaque in her classroom last Wednesday.
The club also recently presented its high school scholarships to Mineola seniors Tristan Kirk, Kelsey Brewington and Josye Sims each for $1,000.
The club resumed meetings May 12 at the civic center pavilion to allow for social distancing and held its first meeting since March inside the center on June 2.
