Mineola athletes excelled at the 92nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, March 27-30, in Austin.

The girls 4x100 meter relay team of Abeni (Abby) Kratzmeyer, Kiara Williams, Alyssa Cannon and Jessiah Riley finished 16th out of a field of 52 teams by posting a time of 50.56 seconds.

Mineola track and field head coach Bill Self commented, “This is the first top-20 finish for a Mineola girls relay at the Texas Relays in over 20 years!”

The girls 4x400 relay team of Kiara Williams, Kozbie Riley, Julianna Stanley and Meghan Brewington also qualified for the relays and recorded a time of 4:19.18 to finish 31st in a field of 53.

Competing against athletes from 2A to 6A schools, Mineola’s reigning state champion Abby Kratzmeyer captured a fourth-place finish with a personal record best vault of 12-06.

Yellowjackets Devin Cormier, Shaw Franklin, Kelby Bruner and William Waggoner ran a 3:35.24 in the boys 4x400 relay, finishing 25th out of 41 teams.

“We are very proud of our student-athletes and how they performed on a big stage against some of the best competition in the state,” summarized Self.

“The Texas Relays features the best athletes across all levels,” stated Texas Relays Director James Barr. “This has become a meet where the top athletes come to open their season and compete against the best,” he continued.

The Texas Relays namesake, Clyde Littlefield, was an iconic coach at the University of Texas. He coached track and field for the Longhorns from 1920-1961.
