MHS journalism student places fourth at state

Mineola High School senior journalism student Kayla Keith placed fourth at the 3A University Interscholastic League editorial writing contest recently.

“Kayla is an outstanding student that has helped keep our yearbook staff organized. She has been very successful at MHS and will be beyond graduation,” Journalism Adviser Jim Phillips said.

Keith is the business editor of the yearbook staff. She is also secretary of Quill & Scroll and the National Honor Society.

She is president of the Anchor Club and is in the student council. The state ranking is added to her list of Keith’s awards that include UIL District Spelling, first place; President’s Education Award; Outstanding Academic Excellence, as well as outstanding student awards in Yearbook, IPC, Geometry and Spanish.

Keith, who is the daughter of Jay and Na’omi Keith, been accepted at the University of Washington.
