Mineola state marching champs, Winnsboro fifth

Two of the top five marching bands in Class 3A hail from Wood County.

The Mineola band won its third consecutive state championship Wednesday night in San Antonio while the Winnsboro band placed fifth.

Final results placed Whitesboro second, Queen City third and Atlanta fourth.

Mineola also won the biennial title in 2017 and 2019.

The Mineola High School and Winnsboro High School marching bands have advanced to the finals of the Conference 3A state marching band contest this afternoon in San Antonio.

The top ten bands, from among the 25 that qualified, will compete for the state championship starting at 7:15 p.m., after the opening ceremony at 7.

Mineola will march at 8:15 and Winnsboro at 9:00 p.m.

In the preliminaries Mineola Sound of the Swarm marched at 2:15 p.m., and the Winnsboro band marched at 12:30.

Final awards will be presented at the Alamodome starting at 9:45 p.m.

Of the six bands that advanced from the area contest in Lindale, five made the state finals. Atlanta, Redwater and Queen City joined Mineola and Winnsboro.
