Quitman city council appoints Greg Hollen building official

Newly-hired city administrator Greg Hollen was named building official for the city of Quitman by a unanimous vote at Thursday’s Quitman City Council meeting. Hollen has been on the job with the city since July 18.

The 2012 International Building Code as adopted by the city of Quitman requires a building official to be appointed. “The building official is responsible for the review and approval of commercial and residential building permit activity,” Hollen explained. “He should engage expertise internally, such as our water department personnel and externally, such as contracted services providers to accomplish this activity. This position will serve as a nonvoting member of the planning and zoning commission.”

Wood County Industrial Commission Board Member Martha Scroggins reported the acceptance of Alba representative Paul Kelbe’s resignation and the approval of board member Neal Duncan to the Wood County Airport Board. Both actions still must be approved by Wood County Commissioners.

Scroggins further noted the commission currently had two vacancies for Alba, two from Hawkins, one at-large from Holly Lake, one at large from Golden and one at-large from Jarvis Christian College.

Furthermore, the board approved a proposed general budget of $172,310 for 2016-2017 for submittal to county commissioners. Also submitted to the commissioners was the HOT fund budget proposal of $80,000.

In other actions, the council approved:

• a financial audit contract with Acker and Co. for $14,500;

• an inter-local agreement with Wood County Fire Marshal Tully Davidson to use city property space for storage;

• annual dues of $45.23 with Atmos Cities Steering Committee and

• previous meeting minutes; financial report; budget report; and July departmental reports.
