Baseball Alumni game set
The 10th Annual Quitman Bulldog Alumni Game is scheduled for Saturday, February 21, at Tom Brady Field.
Head Baseball Coach Hayland Hardy announced the day would begin at 10 a.m. with a Home Run Derby. At 11:30 a.m., former Quitman educators and coaches, David Seago and Tony Gilbreath will be honored for their combined 82 years of "positive education for our children and community" according to Hardy.
Seago graduated from Quitman in 1961, and a former coach and high school Principal. He spent 46 years in education, 23 of those years in Quitman and retired in 2012 after serving as superintendent of Rains ISD for 14 years.
Gilbreath taught and coached for 36 years, 22 of those years in Quitman where he was a teacher, coach and served as high school principal. He was sworn in January 1, 2015 as the Precinct #1 Justice of the Peace after sweeping last spring's primary and running unopposed in the November elections.
After honoring Seago and Gilbreath, there will be a Sam White Stew and then the Quitman Bulldogs will face the Alumni for 10 innings. Things will wrap up about 3 p.m.
"We will say our good-byes and start looking forward to the season. Please come and join the fundraiser, all proceeds go to the baseball program," Hardy said. "There will be a lot of fun , food, baseball and reminiscing."
There will be a make-up date the following Saturday, February 28, in case of inclement weather.
If you want to participate, there is a form to fill out. It is $5.00 to be in the Home Run Derby and $25.00 for the game. Forms must be in by January 23 in order to get your T-shirt prior to the game or it can be mailed if you plan to register on game day.
The Bulldogs open their regular season February 10 with a scrimmage at home against Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill. The first actual game is at home February 23 against Paul Pewitt.
