The show will be directed by Tonya Slayton and is the original version of the musical, which opened in 1971 off Broadway. The production is based mostly on the Gospel of Matthew and features parables mixed with a variety of modern music set primarily to lyrics of traditional hymns.
The roles of Jesus and John the Baptist are male; the remaining parts can be played by either male or female actors. The age range is 20 to 50 years old.
The musical features 15 solos and interested individuals should be prepared with a one minute song that demonstrates vocal range.
