The Mineola fishing team represented their school well last week as River Simonek and Tristan Rychlik along with their boat captain Tim Tyndell were recognized as the sixth ranked team in the Northeast Division out of 126 teams.
Also fishing for Mineola was Bailey Mischnick and Connor Dobbs with their captain Andy Cook.
Mischnick and Dobbs had a tough day on the water, catching lots of small fish, but nothing long enough to weigh in.
Juniors Simonek and Rychlik caught all their fish very early and were able to cull a couple of times to come to the scales with 17.04 pounds total, including their biggest bass that was 6.85 pounds. They nervously watched more teams weigh in, but at the end of the day they finished the tournament in fifth place and earned a berth in the Texas High School Bass Association State Championship to be held at Lake Sam Rayburn on May 18-20.
For their efforts, they received plaques, new Abu Garcia rods and a $2,000 scholarship.
