Quitman, Alba-Golden track athletes head to region

Quitman hurdler Jhett Jackson and high jumper Garrett Taylor earned their way to the Region 2 track meet April 29 – 30 at Whitehouse High School.

Taylor had a jump of 5’ 10” just one inch behind first place winner Dakyron Ward of Caddo Mills. Two other jumpers made the 5’ 10” mark where places were determined on number of jumps. Jackson had a great race in the 300 meter hurdles. He ran a 42.2, barely nipped by second place Seth Davis, Farmersville, who had a 41.87 and first place Lucas Pinnell, Winnsboro, who recorded a 41.77.

Alba-Golden’s Dalton Wright advances on strength of his first place finish in the shot put Wright just missed going in the discus finishing fifth. Panther Luke Kindle will also go the region in the triple jump where he finished fourth.

Mineola boys dominated the team scores scoring 107 points and finishing first, followed by Van Alstynje with 77 and Winnsboro with 76.

The Alba-Golden girls team came in third place overall with 86 points, just one point behind second place Leonard. Farmersville was the top team with 102 points.

Several Lady Panthers will make their way to the Whitehouse region meet. In the running events senior runner Caitlin Lennon won the 800 meter run with a time of 2.25.56. Lennon also ran the anchor leg of the 4x200 meter relay which came in second at 1:47.40. Other relay team members are Beth Nichols, Ashlyn Rogers, and Kaylee Bizell. Gracie Pendergrass and Madison Bizzell are alternates on the realy team.

The 4x400 meter relay team came in second place with ta time of 4:08.24 less than two seconds behind first place Leonard who clocked in at 4:06.75. Relay team members in this race were Kimberly Wright, Kaylee Bizzell, Rogers, and Lennon with alternates Madison Bizell and Beth Nichols.

Rogers also had a fourth place finish in the 400 meter dash while Kaylee Bizell came in third in the 200 meter dash. Shelby Wright punched her ticket to Whitehouse in the shot put with a throw of 37’-8 ½“ to place second.
