National champions from Alba-Golden: FFA Quiz Team

Posted

The Alba-Golden Quiz team attended the National FFA convention last Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 17 and 18) in Indianapolis, Indiana and brought home national champions.

The Junior High division Quiz team took part in the National Quiz Competition, consisting of questions about the FFA manual, and succeeded in gaining the title of national champions.

Agriculture instructors Robert Reynolds and Emily Barton said they are very proud for their team’s hard work and dedication.

Reynolds said, “The hardest part is motivating kids to take a quiz.”

But, it paid off. Barton said the members were eager to study on the way home after they found out they had won. “As soon as they heard they were national champions, it was like a fire lit under them!”

For the Junior High division, this was their first time going to a convention. On the first day in Indianapolis, Barton stated, “It’s new, you start seeing people from other states and it’s a bit overwhelming.” However, this didn’t stop the Quiz Team from gaining the title as national champs.

The Junior division placed 10th and the Senior division placed eighth in the nation, which is also a great feat for the group. Before they attended the convention, Reynolds said this about the upcoming test, “Our goal was to be in the top 10,” which they succeeded in achieving. The Quiz Team came home confident and ready for the next competition to come.

Individual results with 1st high individual in the nation was Cameron Galyean, second was Abby Hallman, third was Meritt McGahee, fourth Bella Crawford and fifth Bree Allie Rolen. Beth Crittenden was seventh, Gabby Jerome was eighth, Riley Wilcoxen tied for 11th, Ari Nivison was 15th and Luke Kindle (Senior Division) was 12th.
