Mineola High fishing duo qualifies for regionals

The regular season for the Texas High School Bass Association – Northeast Division finished at Lake O’the Pines on Saturday, March 2.

The Mineola High School Fishing Team has one team that qualified to move on to regionals on April 13 at Lake Palestine. The top 40 percent from that tournament will meet the top 40 percent finishers from the other two Regional events at Cedar Creek Lake in Athens on May 10-12.

Seniors River Simonek and Tristan Rychlik finished the five divisional tournaments in second place in the Angler of the Year race. They had three Top 10 finishes, winning scholarships and prizes. Their fish weighed in 38.54 pounds over those five tournaments. They were captained by Tim Tyndell and Bobby Waldon.

Seniors Jake Haggerton and Zane Bedford fished all five tournaments and placed in the Top 20 at Lake Fork but could not catch any of the required 14-inch minimum length bass in the other tournaments. They finished below the Top 50% of the full division field of 122 and did not qualify to go to Regionals. R.L. Lewis was their boat captain.

Senior Caleb Teeters and sophomore Tanner Block also fished this season, but were able to compete in only three tournaments and did not fish the final two due to boat mechanical issues. Their captain is Tony Kelsey.

Superintendent Kim Tunnell is the team sponsor this season.
