Ceremony to spotlight child abuse, victims’ rights set next month
The Wood County Child Abuse Prevention and Victim Rights Candlelight Vigil is scheduled for Friday, April 21 at Governor Jim Hogg City Park in Quitman. The event will be from 6-7 p.m.
This year’s guest speaker will be Detective Nikki Wright with the Longview Police Department who works with crimes involving children, including internet. There will be food provided by local organizations, a balloon release and more.
April is designated as spotlight child abuse and sexual assault prevention.
The event is sponsored by the Wood County Child Welfare & Protection Board, Wood County District Attorney Victim Services, the Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center, CASA, Wood County Sheriff’s Office, East Texas Crisis Center, Family & Protective Services and the Wood County police agencies.
