Mineola hosting state tee-ball championship

The biggest story in Tee-ball will occur in Mineola, July 14-19. The Mineola Youth Foundation will host the 2019 Texas Teenage 6U (under six years of age) Tee-ball State Championship tournament.

Robert Hamlin, Mineola Youth Foundation president, commented, “It is truly a big deal. We will have a significant economic impact to the city that week. More importantly, we get a chance to pay back the experiences which shaped us playing youth baseball.” He added, “To invest in the future is to invest in the youth. Let’s play ball and have fun.”

More than 800 people are expected into town for the tourney with over 1,000 attending throughout the week. Mineola will be hosting a championship tourney again after a five-year pause.

The festivities begin on Sunday, July 14, with an official opening commencing at 7 p.m. Following that, players and coaches from each team will be introduced. A fireworks show will cap the ceremony.

Eighteen teams will compete in double-elimination play. Play will begin at 6 p.m. each evening. All six diamonds will be busy with 12 games scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. The tourney will continue Wednesday and Thursday with the championship game Friday evening.

Hosting the tourney earned the two top-finishing Mineola teams automatic berths. The Bombers, who finished fifth in last years’ state tourney, and the Rangers will compete for Mineola. Eight other local teams are still in contention as the district tournaments are not yet complete.
