The Hawkins Lady Hawks had a rough week with losses to district rivals Big Sandy and Union Grove. The Lady Hawks started the district season at 4-1 but have fallen to third place in District 16-2A behind Union Grove – undefeated in district play and 2-0 against the Lady Hawks this season – and Big Sandy who Hawkins defeated at home in their first district game.

Hawkins fell to Big Sandy on Tuesday, 42-29. The Lady Hawks fell behind by five points in the first period and Big Sandy stretched that lead to seven points at halftime. Hawkins continued to battle in the third period and trailed by eight points at the end of the third period but a 14-9 run by Big Sandy in the final period pushed the final margin of victory to 13 points.

Raeli Smith led Hawkins›s offense with eight points and contributed eight rebounds as well.

Also contributing for Hawkins were Harlie Conover with five points and a rebound, Emily Hodges with four points and four rebounds, Silvia Montgomery with four points, two rebounds and a steal, Destiny Chapman with four points, three rebounds and a steal, Emily Moore with three points, five rebounds and three steals and Hannah Langford with one point.

Hawkins fell to Union Grove, 43-25, Friday night. Smith led the way for the Lady Hawks with a double-double scoring 10 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Also chipping in for Hawkins were Moore with five points, 11 rebounds and two blocks, Langford with three points, three rebounds and two steals, Montgomery with two points, four rebounds and a block, Chapman with two points, six rebounds and a steal, Conover with two points, two rebounds and a steal and Christian Harris with one point.

The Hawkins Lady Hawks (12-12, 4-3) look to rebound this week on the road against Overton Tuesday, after Monitor press time, and Carlisle Friday night. Hawkins defeated both squads in January with a rout of Overton and a close six-point victory over Carlisle. The Lady Hawks will finish the season at home Feb. 7 for Senior Night against Gary.
