Plans for the 11th annual chili cook-off have been announced by the Mineola Kiwanis Club Saturday, Feb. 22 at the First United Methodist Church’s Ministries Center on N. Newsom in Mineola from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.  Tickets are available from Kiwanis members for $5 or may be purchased at the door.  The Country Classics will entertain.

Judges will select the best tasting chili and the best looking booth while the audience will select the people’s choice award. A fourth award will be given to the cook with the most tips. Those enjoying the chili lunch can drop cash into the cook’s bucket. Drop in coins and the coins will be deducted from the final amount.

Desserts will be sold for $1 or may be purchased by the whole cake or pie. A live dessert auction and a silent auction will be available again.

The Mineola Kiwanis Club thanks everyone who helped them reach their goal of $52,500 last September for the Eliminate Project, which saves the lives of mothers and babies from death by tetanus. This goal will save over 29,000 lives. In an update as of Dec. 31, Kiwanis International has raised over $87 million, which is 79% of their goal of $110 million. Only 12 countries remain to be eliminated from death by tetanus.
